Top Three Reasons Batteries Die in the Winter

Batteries tend to die in the winter for three key reasons. First, batteries have a reduced capacity when the weather is extremely cold. Second, starter motors demand more amps to get going in the cold. And, third, you tend to use battery-powered accessories more frequently in the winter.

Extremely low temperatures can drop a battery’s capacity by 20 percent or more, which means that if you’re running your car with an older battery, that power capacity can drop to practically nothing quickly.
